ABOUT OUR CLUBS

THE DEMENTIA MUSIC & SOCIAL CLUB  is a privately funded, not for profit, independent community group, that is run by a group of Volunteers who are all experienced at working with people with Dementia, and running music/social dementia groups. Many having trained with the Alzheimer's Society..

We currently  run  two  Clubs.  ONE in RAINHAM, on a Monday afternoon from 1pm – 3pm, and  ONE in  ROMFORD, on a Wednesday afternoon from 1.30 - 3.30. Membership of each Club is by way of a £4 donation per person, on entry.

WHO IS OUR CLUB FOR

There is a mountain of research that show how music and socializing can significantly slow down the onset and progress of Dementia, and memory loss, so our Club was set up to provide a friendly, welcoming, music orientated environment for people who have been diagnosed with Dementia. You do not have to live in the borough of HAVERING to be a Member of the Club, but for Health & Safety reasons, all Members with Dementia have to be accompanied by one or two paying relatives, friends or a professional Carer for the period of the Club session. (Professional Carers do not have to pay an entrance donation)  We also provide information and face-to-face support for all Carers, who may have concerns.

THE CLUB FORMAT

Each group session lasts for approximately 2 hours, where the first half-hour consists of a nice catch-up chat, a cuppa and a snack, and a group Sing-A-Long with our singer/Guitarist GEORGE, who acts as our 'Master Of Ceremonies'. Members will also be invited to do a solo song with George or via Karaoke. Each table also has a quiz sheet to complete between them, and after a chat, a cuppa and a sing-a-long, a professional singer takes to the floor and does a one-hour session, Members can either have a dance, or can simply carry on chatting or do the quiz. Following the singer, we do the FREE raffle draw, followed by the answers to the quiz questions. 

IN ESSENCE, our Club is like one big happy family, where the vast majority of our attendees say that each session is like having a party every week with friends.
